About The Event
What does music preserve when the world around is changing?
This remarkable programme brings together three masterpieces of the string quartet, each written in very different circumstances, but each illuminating something enduring about the human spirit.
Haydn’s radiant Sunrise Quartet celebrates the extraordinary conversation of four equal voices, laying the foundations of the string quartet.
Shostakovich’s haunting Eighth Quartet, bears witness to one of the twentieth century’s darkest chapters and remains one of the twentieth century’s most compelling musical testimonies.
Beethoven’s luminous Harp Quartet transforms personal struggle into music of astonishing imagination, beauty and hope.
Spanning more than 160 years, these works invite audiences to explore how composers have continued to create beauty, truth and humanity in changing times. Whether you are discovering chamber music for the first time or returning to familiar masterpieces, Keeping the Light offers an evening of music that continues to speak across generations.
This is a free concert! Please register your interest to help us manage numbers at the venue. With your permission we will use your details to occasionally send Pitchstone Music news and events.
Doors open 6.15PM. A complimentary glass of wine awaits!
We look forward to welcoming you!
